Five persons, including two women, have been arrested for allegedly setting a honeytrap for a farmer, who gave lift in his car to a married woman in Jalalabad town of Fazilka.

Farmer Lakhwinder Singh of Chack Roranwala has alleged Sandeep Kaur of Noor Samand village tried to talk to him on phone several times. On June 26, she requested him to drop her at Lakhewali Mandi village in his car. On the same day, he received a call from a person who asked him the whereabouts of the woman. One of the accused, Gurucharan Singh, demanded Rs 5 lakh on the pretext of taking away the woman, failing which he threatened to get a rape case registered against Lakhwinder.  However, some middlemen struck the deal and directed Lakhwinder to pay Rs 1.25 lakh.

IO Jagjit Singh said when Lakhwinder was handing over Rs 50,000 in Bhai Mati Dass Colony in Jalalabad, the police nabbed Sandeep Kaur, Gurucharan Singh and Balwinder Singh, all residents of Lakhewali Mandi, Gurmukh Singh of Rattawala village and Surinder Kaur of Mannewala village on the spot. Their sixth accomplice Gurjant Singh of Ratta Khera village is on the run. — OC
