A man who posed as an Army Major, offered to serve cows at a gaushala in Dugrana village and allegedly fled with lakhs of rupees that he collected from people as donations, has been arrested.

He had also taken away a Brezza car, the complainant alleged. It was revealed that the con man was Narinder Sharma (37), a resident of Ranjeetpura near Govindgarh in Jaipur district. He was produced in a court today which remanded him in police custody till September 1.

In the FIR lodged under various Sections of the IPC about six weeks ago on behalf of the management at Bhadra police station in Hanumangarh, Sushil Kumar Suthar of Raslana village said a man who claimed to be a Major (retd) Surjit Singh Bajwa and a resident of Ludhiana, stayed at the gaushala for a few months in Dugrana village after making some contributions. He allegedly fled with more than Rs 25 lakh donation money and also took away a car.

A special investigation team used cyber technology and flashed his photo to police stations across the state and neighbouring Punjab and Haryana police. Even when he had switched off the phone after fleeing, the SIT succeeded in finding out his real identity and nabbed him.
