Tension prevailed in Husnar village of Gidderbaha subdivision here on Friday when some locals stopped some people of other community to dispose of the carcass of a cow at the disposal point in the area.
On this, a large number of villagers gathered and announced that they won’t allow any community to take the possession of the land. Thereafter, a large number of people of the other community too gathered there. Meanwhile, the police too reached at the spot to diffuse the tension.
The residents told the media that the village had 6 acres of shamlat land. “The village gurdwara and the carcass disposal point are located in this shamlat land. However, some persons are provoking the people of the other community to grab the land and construct another gurdwara. However, a majority of people in the village don’t want a separate gurdwara,” they added.
Meanwhile, those wanting to construct a separate gurdwara alleged that some upper caste people were not allowing them to construct the gurdwara. “To stop us from constructing the gurdwara, they are throwing the carcass at this land. The matter is also pending in the court,” they claimed.
The police, however, said the situation was under control.
