Ropar, September 27
Health and Family Welfare Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu has ordered suspension of three officials of Dial 108 Ambulance service for allegedly harassing a caller requesting for an ambulance to carry an accident victim.
The action came after an accident victim’s kin uploaded an audio clip of the alleged harassment on social media.
Sukhvinder Singh of Beli village was reportedly going on a motorcycle on September 19, when he met with an accident on the Ropar-Anandpur Sahib road near Bharatgarh. He was taken to the Community Health Centre, Bharatgarh, from where doctors referred him to the Ropar Civil Hospital.
Beli village resident Mohinder Singh, who was accompanying the victim at the hospital, rang up ambulance service phone number seven times, but the phone operator did nothing except wasting time on pretext of seeking details of the patient and hospital.
The ambulance was not sent even after the hospital staff requested for it. The conversation was recorded on phone by Mohinder Singh, who later put it on social media.
Taking cognisance of the issue, the Health Minister yesterday ordered the suspension of two emergency response officers and one cluster leader deputed at Dial 108 headquarters in Amritsar.
The minister said the Punjab Health System Corporation had been directed to change protocol in which priority must be accorded to emergency cases.
