The Court of Additional Sessions Judge Rashmi Sharma today adjourned the hearing in the much talked about Issewal gang-rape case till tomorrow, after the victim was cross-examined for around four hours.

The defence lawyers started cross-examining the girl before lunch and it continued up till 5 pm.

But it could not be completed and would continue on Tuesday, the next date of hearing.

The victim’s statement was recorded by the court on July 22 and the charges were framed in the case on May 6.

The police had filed a chargesheet based upon the scientific investigation, supported by 54 witnesses, against the accused.

All accused, including Sadiq Ali of Mukandpur, Nawanshahr, Jagroop Singh alias Rupi of Jaspal Bangar village, Surmo of Khanpur village, Dehlon, Saif Ali of Dehlon and Ajay alias Lalan of Jassad Paddi village, Ludhiana, were present during the hearing.

The girl was reportedly gang-raped on Feburary 9 near Issewal village on the banks of Sidwan canal, about 15 km from Ludhiana, after being dragged out of the car she was travelling in with her friend.
