In a protest against the state government’s decision to re-employ retired patwaris and kanungos in a bid to fill vacancies, the patwaris across the state will organise a strike on October 7.

A decision to this effect was taken in a meeting of Revenue Patwar Union, Punjab, held here today under the chairmanship of Mohan Singh Bhedpur.

A press release by the Union said the Patwaris would stage protests at four places — Jalalabad, Dakha, Mukerian and Phagwara — where by-elections are scheduled next month. In addition, the group is also demanding equal pay.
