The SGPC has ordered an inquiry after Punjabi singer Gurdas Maan was honoured by the management of Gurdwara Ber Sahib at Sultanpur Lodhi recently.
Mann, who stirred a controversy over his support to “one nation, one language” move, was presented with a siropa at the shrine during his recent visit there.
SGPC chief secretary Dr Roop Singh said the Sikh body had strongly condemned Maan over his objectionable remarks to demean Punjabi language. “Till the time he tenders an apology over his support to the controversial move, the SGPC would continue to oppose him. SGPC secretary Mahinder Singh Aahali has been asked to find out on whose directions the singer was presented a siropa at the gurdwara,” he said.
The controversy erupted when during a conversation with a radio host, Maan was asked about the debate over Hindi imposition, to which he said: "This uproar is being created by idle people…The nation should speak 'Hindustani', a mixture of common words of Urdu, Punjabi and Hindi." — TNS
