Arguments in the Bargari sacrilege case today continued before the special CBI court in Mohali, but the Central probe agency’s application seeking permission for further investigations in the matter could not be taken up for hearing.

Two applications were scheduled to be taken up for consideration today. One was the application filed by the CBI, which had submitted its closure report in the case in July, seeking the court’s nod to reopen probe into certain issues raised by the state government recently. The other was an application moved by local politician Harbans Singh Jalal seeking permission to file a protest petition against CBI’s closure report. This application was opposed by the other parties as “untenable and unsustainable”. The court has fixed November 6 as the next date of hearing for further arguments on both applications. — TNS
