Peeved over the orders, the owners of 60 tanneries have said they are being penalised for no fault of theirs. They said their units were already working to the half of capacity as 50 per cent of the drums were sealed by the PPCB eight years ago.
“We have meters installed to check outflow of sullage. The peak season has just come. We have pending orders. We also have bank limits. We have families to feed from this work. Where do we go now?” Amardeep Sandhu, a tannery owner, asked.
“Seeing our plight, no industrialist will ever think of investing in Punjab. We are mulling to approach the SC for relief”, said SPS Virk, another owner. — TNS
